(South Bend, IN) -- For the first time, a woman will be a leprechaun at the University of Notre Dame. The Indiana school named its three students who will serve as the school's mascot next year. Lynnette Wukie, a junior from Ohio, is the first woman selected since the leprechaun became the school's mascot in 1965. She is majoring in film, television and theater and was captain on her cheerleading and dance teams in Grafton, Ohio. She and Samuel Jackson are just the second and third African Americans picked to be leprechauns. The third student named this week is Conal Fagan, who is a native of Derry Northern Ireland. He is the first native Irishman given the role.
