Our friends at Play it Forward Pittsburgh have asked us to share that today, December 8th, is #PGHOrganDonorDay.
Holidays are around the corner, and while many Americans are waiting for the perfect gift, more than 100,000 are waiting for something else. Every day 22 Americans die waiting for a life-saving organ, and in Pennsylvania alone there are nearly 8,000 people on the organ transplant waiting list. Despite being home to some of the top transplant centers in the world, only half of eligible Pittsburgh residents are registered organ donors.
But this is a fixable problem, and you can be part of the solution. We’re proud to join forces with Play it Forward Pittsburgh, a city-wide coalition to establish Pittsburgh as the national leader in organ donation, for a digital organ donor registration drive. This week, organizations across the city are working together to achieve a common goal: save lives by registering as many organ donors as possible.
