Paul McCartney performed a "new" Beatles track live for the first time ever during his set in Montevideo, Uruguay on Tuesday (October 1), surprising unsuspecting fans with the tune amid the opening night of his long-awaited "Got Back" tour.
According to NME, the icon kicked off the tour with a special performance of 2023 Beatles track, "Now and Then," standing out as the song's stage debut! The single, penned in the 70s and completed in 2023 with the wonders of modern AI technology, features McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon traveling through time to bring the Beatles together from various decades.
Video footage captured by a fan present at the show depicts McCartney serenading the audience with the career-spanning single from behind the piano as clips highlighting precious moments with his bandmates flash on the screen behind him.
NME mentioned that in addition to performing "Now and Then" live for the first time since its creation, McCartney dedicated a slew of songs to impactful people in his life including "Something" (sung for Harrison), "My Valentine" (sung for his wife Nancy Shevell), and "Here Today" (sung for Lennon).
The standout also performed "I've Got a Feeling" as a virtual duet with Lennon, and a track he wrote with his first band, The Quarrymen (who would later become The Beatles), titled "In Spite Of All The Danger."
Along with an endless list of Beatles classics, McCartney also dazzled the crowd with a few solo tracks and singles penned during his time with Wings including "Junior's Farm," "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five," and of course, "Band on the Run" to conclude an epic 37-song setlist.
The legend is slated to take the stage in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as part of his next tour date on Saturday (October 5)!
