Not all heroes where capes. Actor Tom Hanks has donated his blood to science. Medical researchers could create a life-saving vaccine with the aid of antibodies in Hanks's blood.
Tom Hanks told NPR that he and wife Rita Wilson enrolled in a medical study, (quote) “We asked ‘Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?’ We will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the Hank-ccine.”
Doctors believe the 75,000 American COVID survivors may have the secret to treating the deadly disease. The antibodies produced by their immune system just might cure new patients. Also, the antibodies provide clues to researchers on which vaccines might be most effective against this coronavirus.
