Meghan Markle Thinks Restrictions Put On Her & Harry By Queen Are Payback

The Duchess Of Sussex Undertakes Her First Official Engagement With Queen Elizabeth II

Remember when Queen Elizabeth banned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from using the word "royal" in any of their branding going forward? And then the Sussexes' released a low-key shady statement saying Her Majesty actually has no jurisdiction over the word in Canada, where they've been living since November? Well, it turns out both the Queen and the Sussexes' are super upset over the whole debacle. While Queen Elizabeth was insulted by Harry and Meghan's response to her decision, the Sussexes' feel like they're being "picked on" because they decided to step down as full-time working members of the Royal Family.

A source close to Harry and Meghan spoke to The Daily Mail about the tense situation, which the Sussexes' reportedly believe is "payback" for stepping down. "Meghan said that [she and Harry] were left with no choice but to make a public statement," the insider revealed. "She said if anyone should feel insulted, it should be them. They never intended to capitalize on the word royal, and to insinuate they were somehow abusing their privileges is absurd."

Despite their hurt feelings, Harry and Meghan plan to carry on with their heads held high. "She said she and Harry will continue to rise above jealousy and pettiness and focus on the good they are creating and on being the best parents to Archie," the source continued. "She said she will continue to champion Harry because out of everyone, he has the most integrity and the most loyalty."

The Daily Mail's source also claims that Meghan believes Queen Elizabeth was "under pressure to make those demands about the name change" because Harry is her "favorite" family member behind the scenes and the other royals "just can't deal with it."

Harry and Meghan are currently in the U.K. for their final round of official engagements on behalf of the Queen. Once this round of engagements is complete, the 12-month trial period for their life as non-working royals will begin. Hopefully their reunion with Queen Elizabeth, Prince William and Kate Middleton won't be too awkward.
