SINEAD O'CONNOR: Says Prince Tried To Beat Her

Sinead O’Connor had her biggest hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” thanks to Prince, but in a new interview she says her first and only meeting with the legendary performer was anything but a good one.

During an appearance on “Good Morning Britain” Sinead was asked if she ever met Prince, and she said when she did “he tried to beat me up,” adding, “It's not a joke, it's not a joke at all, it was a very frightening experience actually."

Sinead says that Prince “summoned” her to his California home, “because he was uncomfortable with the fact I wasn't a protégé of his, I had just recorded the song, and he was wanting me to be a protégé of his.” She then says he demanded she stop swearing, which she refused, explaining, “Irish people swear all the time, of course I told him where he could go." That’s when she says “he went for me.”

Sinead says she ran out of the house and was hiding from Prince, who chased after her with a pillow that had something hard in it. They eventually came face to face on a highway in Malibu a 5 am. "We were running around his car, I'm spitting at him and he's trying to punch me, he's got this pillow he's trying to hit me with,” she shares. "Then I had to go and ring someone's doorbell which is what my father always told me to do if I got in a situation like that."

As for why she thinks it happened, Sinead notes, “He was into some pretty dark drugs... I never saw or heard from him again after that."
