Bernstein in Pittsburgh

Fri, Oct 5 - Sun, Oct 7, 2018

To mark the centennial of musical giant Leonard Bernstein’s birth, we celebrate the legendary composer, conductor, pianist and musical advocate’s time in Pittsburgh.  Manfred Honeck leads pieces that Bernstein himself conducted with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra over his 40 year relationship with the orchestra, including works by Beethoven, Haydn and Stravinsky’s Firebird.  Bernstein’s own First Symphony, Jeremiah, which the Pittsburgh Symphony premiered in 1944, will be a special highlight as American mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano brings her lyrical voice to illuminate this work.
