If you’re one of those fantasy owners who took Le’Veon Bell with the top pick in your draft, you didn’t pick a running back, you picked a patch of oopsy daisies.
Or so it seems after “El Bell” was absent yet again from practice angering teammates and basically forcing the hand of head coach Mike Tomlin to start his able back up James Conner this Sunday against the Browns.
So expect the second-year running back to get a full workload and possibly for some time as Bell has yet to sign his $14.5M franchise tag and this is the longest he has ever stayed away from camp.
Meanwhile, the Steelers have no plans to rescind Bell’s franchise tag. No team has rescinded a tag after training camp since the 2005 Eagles, when they pulled defensive tackle Corey Simon’s and made him a free agent.
Bell and the Steelers failed to come to an agreement at the past two franchise tag deadline and Bell’s agent, Adisa Bakari, said the running back is going to do what is “necessary to protect his value long-term.”
And that means his short-term value to the Steelers is worthless.
