Yesterday was the second day of star running back Le’Veon Bell’s longest holdout as he was once again absent from practice.
But that didn’t seem to concern head coach Mike Tomlin who when asked why he wasn’t concerned about Bell’s absence offered one word.
That would be Bell’s understudy, second year man James Conner, whose impressive preseason might just earn him serious playing time Sunday at Cleveland regardless of what happens with Bell.
Bell has missed the past two training camps due to rocky franchise tag negotiations and skipped Monday’s practice, prompting general manager Kevin Colbert to issue a statement that the team was “disappointed.” Upon arrival, he must take a physical and sign his $14.5-million franchise tender before taking the practice field. Center and team captain Maurkice Pouncey says he expects Bell to be in uniform today.
Maybe he’d better make that first ting this morning as Conner has had a stellar preseason rushing for 100-yards on 19 carries and adding 7 catches for 61-yards all while taking the first-team reps since training camp opened.
