Huey Lewis and the News were forced to cancel all of his upcoming shows because Huey's suffering from hearing loss, and the singer is now opening up to “Today” about his condition.
Huey has been diagnosed with Meniere's disease, a disorder that causes vertigo, ringing in the ears and progressive hearing loss, and it’s putting his career in jeopardy. "I haven't come to grips with the fact that I may never sing again,'' he shares. "I'm still hoping I'm gonna get better. They say a positive attitude is important."
Huey says he knew something was wrong when he walked to the stage for a show in Dallas and “it sounded like there was a jet engine going on.” He adds, “I knew something was wrong. I couldn't find pitch. Distorted. Nightmare. It's cacophony."
While Huey can hear people and talk, the disease completely affects him when he’s performing. “I can't sing,'' he says. "I can't hear music. I can do everything but what I love to do the most, which is a drag."
Huey is currently treating his condition with diet, and a lot of hope. He notes, “It can get better. It just hasn’t yet.”
