FORMER STEELER COACH: Has Surgery To Remove Cancer

The 2016 season was a painful one for Arizona Cardinal players as the team stumbled all season while dealing with a number of health issues.

But apparently, there was one malady that we never saw on an injury report—and it affected every player.

And that would be head coach Bruce Arians, who had a small but terrifying bump of his own: a cancerous spot on his kidney.

This according to his new book, The Quarterback Whisperer:

“Arians writes that he was out to dinner with his wife, Chris, in December when he got a call from his doctor. Arians had just been to the doctor to get a hernia checked, and his ultrasound revealed a small spot on his kidney — renal cell carcinoma. Amazingly, Arians coached the remainder of the season before having surgery to remove a “small portion” of the kidney in February.”

Fortunately, the tumor was removed at the end of the season.

Arians, despite the 7-8-1 finish, was not because he is still 34-14 over his first three seasons with two playoff appearances.

And that means the prognosis for the Cards and Arians is pretty good.
