BRAD PITT: Wasn't First Choice for "Thelma & Louise"

Playing J.D. in "Thelma & Louise" was Brad Pitt's breakout role and now we're finding out he almost didn't get it. Instead, it was Robert Downey Jr. who was close to landing the part.

Why didn't he get it, especially considering he was already a star when the movie came out in 1991?

According to the new book "Off the Cliff: How the Making of Thelma and Louise Drove Hollywood to the Edge," director Ridley Scott was worried RDJ would look too short next to star Geena Davis. Brad eventually came in to read for the role last second and had chemistry with Geena. The actress recommended he get it and the rest is history. "Off the Cliff" is in stores now.
