R&B/jazz singer Al Jarreau passed away yesterday at the age of 76. The singer had been hospitalized in Los Angeles, and recently announced he was retiring from touring at the recomendation of his doctors.
As of Thursday, a post on his Twitter page claimed he was "recovering slowly and steadily." So far there's no word on Al's cause of death, but he reportedly passed away in the hospital.
“He will be missed. His 2nd priority in life was music. There was no 3rd. His 1st priority, far ahead of the other, was healing or comforting anyone in need," read a statement on his website. "Whether it was emotional pain, or physical discomfort, or any other cause of suffering, he needed to put our minds at ease and our hearts at rest." The statement added, "He needed to see a warm, affirming smile where there had not been one before. Song was just his tool for making that happen.”
Jarreau is a seven-time GRAMMY winner, known for such hits as "We're In This Love Together," "After All, and the theme to the TV show "Moonlighting." Check out the complete statement from Jarreau's team below, as well as star's reaction to the singer's death.
