McDonald’s is preparing for when they reopen dining rooms at restaurants around the world and they’ve recently tested new features to help prevent the spread of coronavirus at a location in the Netherlands. At a McDonald’s in the city of Arnheim, they’re trying things that help customers maintain social distancing, including designated waiting spots that keep people at least five feet apart and serving meals on trolleys so people can pick up their food instead of closely interacting with employees.
There are also hand-washing stations at the entrance and a host standing behind a clear plastic barrier to direct customers where to get in line. While 75% of McDonald’s in the U.S. have remained open during the pandemic, all restaurants in the Netherlands have been closed and they don’t expect reopening to happen before June.
As far as U.S. McDonald’s locations, a rep for the chain says they’re moving “thoughtfully and judiciously to make changes to our operations in collaboration with our franchisees.” According to the rep, they’ve already changed around 50 processes, including wellness checks, putting up protective barriers, adding social distancing floor decals, and providing thermometers to restaurants.
