With a shortage of personal protective equipment that healthcare workers need to do their jobs, a group of private and nonprofit organizations created a system that lets people donate masks and medical equipment they may have stored away directly to hospitals. Companies like Microsoft UPS, and the American Hospital Association helped build the project called “Protecting People Everywhere,” using the same initials as that much-needed equipment, PPE.
It works with an app and website called HealthEquip that connects donors with hospitals that are most in need based on the amount of staff and coronavirus patients, as well as other factors. Anyone can donate N95 masks, gloves, and such and hospitals sign up to request what they need and then the system matches them with a donor. The hospital covers shipping costs and UPS takes care of transporting.
