Investigators say a train engineer in Los Angeles deliberately tried to collide into the USNS Mercy hospital ship.
Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Eduardo Moreno admitted to running the train off the tracks at high speed yesterday near the Port of Los Angeles. It crashed through barriers and came to a stop a mere 250 yards from the ship.
Moreno told police he did this because he didn't believe officials were being honest about the hospital ship's purpose and he intended to expose the truth. No one was hurt in the incident. Moreno faces one felony count of train wrecking that could land him 20 years behind bars.
