Remember how good wide receiver Martavis Bryant was when he was a Steeler and when he wasn’t suspended?
If you can’t it’s okay because it really was a long time ago.
After scoring 14 TD’s over just 20 games in 2014 and 2015, Bryant was suspended for the entire 2016 season before returning for a lackluster 2017 in which he saw the endzone just three times over 15 games.
Then things just got worse when Jon Gruden and the Raiders traded for him in 2018, sending a third round pick to Pittsburgh, who the Steelers used on Ben Roethlisberger’s soon to be successor starter Mason Rudolph.
Meanwhile, Bryant was released months later before the season when Gruden learned he was facinganother possible year-long suspension by the NFL for a violation of the league's drug policy.Gruden saved face by re-signed him to a one-year deal ten days later, but it paid no dividends. He had just 19 catches for 266 yards and no touchdowns over 8 games before being placed on injured reserve on December 5, 2018 with a knee injury.
Then in December, the NFL did suspend Bryant indefinitely for the third time in four seasons. Wow.
Well now Bryant reportedly plans to apply for reinstatement in the“coming weeks,”and has argued with the league that its drug program is not set up to offer players access to proper treatment for mental health issues.
Ummm—it’s not a mental health issue if you’re just crazy about weed, Martavis.
