Tommy Ramone, the last original member of The Ramones, has died of bile duct cancer at 65. The drummer and producer, whose real last name was Erdelyi, was born in Hungary. He founded the future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group in Queens, New York, in 1974, and was its acknowledged leader.
He left The Ramones after the band's third album, and later had a surprising second musical career, leaving behind urban punk rock to live in Woodstock, New York and lead a bluegrass duo called Uncle Monk.
His death makes The Ramones the first modern group whose members are all gone. Singer Joey Ramone died in 2001 of cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone died of a drug overdose in 2002. Guitarist Johnny Ramone died of cancer in 2004.
