A star-studded array of celebrities were at New York's Apollo Theater Monday night for the world premiere of the James Brown bio-pic Get On Up.
Mick Jagger (one of the film's producers), Martha Stewart, Reverend Al Sharpton, Rachel Robinson, Congressman Charles Rangel, Mad Men's John Slattery, New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft, star Chadwick Boseman,and cast members Dan Aykroyd, Octavia Spencer, Brandon Smith and Keith Robinson posed for pictures. A few -- though not Jagger, Aykroyd or Spencer -- spoke briefly to reporters before entering the famed Harlem Theater where Brown performed many times.
Brown's daughter Yamma, who runs the James Brown Family Foundation; the singer's last wife Tomi Rae and their son James the Second were also on hand to show their support.
Signifying the feelings Brown's hometown still hold for him, a news crew from an Augusta, Georgia TV station reported live from the scene. Get On Up will have a special screening there on Thursday.
The movie opens nationally August 1st.
